I’ve got a new favourite dress! Is there any better feeling? I think the Holmes Dress is my new go-to everyday dress, and that is saying something! I usually go for sleeveless dresses but there is something about the elegant yet casual sleeves on Holmes that just works for me! It is especially dreamy in a rayon fabric like this one, and you know I can’t resist a black and white print!

I made this Holmes true to the pattern with the exception of the hem ruffle. I made it a bit longer for this one because I had extra fabric and I wanted to make the most of it. I like this little bit of extra length!
The other thing I did with this Holmes is that I skipped the buttonholes! It’s a little cheater hack you can do if you don’t have a good buttonholer or you just don’t want to bother! You simply sew the front opening closed (I used hand sewing here to make it subtle), and then you sew your buttons on! Nobody needs to know. You don’t need this opening to get in and out of Holmes, it is purely decorative (and also great for nursing).
The fabric is a black and white rayon print that I purchased in store at Fabricland. I love this dotted leaf/vine print and the scale of it works really well with this dress. Of course, because it is a rayon challis it is super flowy and soft and luxurious feeling. I love how swishy it is!
I know I’ll be reaching for this dress a ton. I feel like it is so easy to dress up for more formal occasions but it also works well as a casual summer dress. It can transition into fall and winter, too! Holmes can do it all.
